Rich autumnal palette with flares of late afternoon sun. Brushstrokes not grasping for planes or underpinning volume, but in turmoil of inner combustion, self-consumption; (the opposite of former growth and swelling to maturity). Fruits subside to shrunken, leathery distortions, lobed and snouted. The last brilliant flames claim kinship with the naive optimism of the plate's spotted border, but the underlying darkness will eventually consume all.
